Gummy Smiles
What is a gummy smile?
A "gummy smile" is one in which the gums under the upper lip and above the top teeth are visible. This is most noticeable when you're laughing and/or smiling as large as you can. In general, the top lip should sit slightly above the upper teeth, with only a small bit of gums visible. We usually anticipate seeing just the pinkish (gingiva) small "triangles" between the teeth. While every genuine and true smile is appealing, a normal or "perfect" smile shows no more than 2 millimeters of upper gum tissues, whereas a "gummy" smile shows 3 millimeters or more. People who have a "gummy" smile may believe their teeth are smaller than they should be, be hesitant to smile or be self-conscious about their smile. A "gummy" smile, on the other hand, can be improved with Botox® therapy.
Botox® can be used to treat a gummy smile in a simple and effective manner. By relaxing the muscle, Botox® can assist to lessen the upper lip's excessive mobility. The best aspect of this therapy is that it is non-invasive and takes only a few minutes to complete! Botox® contains botulinum toxin type A, which can relax upper lip muscles and prevent the rise of the top lip when smiling, allowing the gums to stay hidden. A little amount of Botox® is injected between the nose and upper lip to eliminate the appearance of any "gummy" smile, resulting in a more pleasing and natural smile.
The therapy is really successful, and the effects usually last three months; we've noticed that repeating this method over time gives us additional time between treatments. After treatment, one can return to work right away, and the entire effect arriving within two weeks.
